Resurgent Daniil Medvedev Secures First Title in Over Two Years
19 of the Russian's 21 titles have been won on hard surfaces
A resurgent the Russian player secured his first title for over two years with success over Corentin Moutet in the competition title decider.
Medvedev, a former world number one, has experienced a torrid season, managing just a single victory at the Grand Slams and suffering a setback at the US Open.
His inconsistency on the professional circuit - and issues with his service game in especial - led to him dropping out of the elite rankings and ultimately splitting with former mentor his previous coach.
Presently collaborating with his coach and Goetzke, the tennis star has consistently progressed in the past month - peaking in a tightly fought three-set win over opponent Corentin Moutet.
It is Medvedev's initial championship since the Rome competition and initial on a hard court from that period of 2023.
Victory also means Medvedev has won twenty-one championships at 21 different competitions.
"It's the first time I am participating in a tournament with my two daughters together, so to win a title is especially meaningful," commented world number 14 Daniil Medvedev.
"This title is in tribute of my child her name, because the maiden victory I achieved when my older daughter my daughter was born was for her."
The tennis star, the 2021 US Open champion, had failed in his past six title deciders, featuring in that event previously this season.
Medvedev's counter-punching approach and recurring reactions on the playing surface had prompted commentators to doubt if his ability to perform at the top level was concluded.
Yet the player has made changes in recent weeks, making an effort to advance forward and compete aggressively, supported by an improved serve.
The champion fought back from a deficit in the initial set against the tricky Frenchman, taking 4 of the final five points to go ahead.
The competitors traded break points in the second set before the Frenchman, attempting for his first professional title, gained dominance to force a final set.
He saved 4 early break points in a competitive third set before the champion won the break to that score to serve for the match.
Fittingly, the winner clinched the title with a rally at the net area, with the Frenchman unable to control a return after a lengthy match.
